Chief Ouray: Ute Chief of Peace
Commemorative stamp preserves an image and the memory of Colorado's most
famous Indian Chief, Ouray. Chief Ouray was known by the whites as the Ute Chief of Peace,
for his many years of attempting to keep peaceful relations between the seven Ute tribes
and the whites, as settlers of the American west began encroaching further upon Ute lands.
Ouray was also known to be a trusted friend of American pioneer, Kit Carson.
Revised in 2007 from it's original 2002 version and
bearing plate number V2-1111, there are 40 stamps per sheet. Album page includes brief
history of Chief Ouray and the stamps.
