This poster stamp for The Hester House, an
old-fashioned gift and candy store in Silver City, New Mexico will be one of their unique
methods of advertising in 2005. Which is but one reason why they have been successful as a
landmark business in Southwestern New Mexico for all these years.
The stamp centrally features a pen and ink drawing of the original building where The
Hester House made its grand opening, 37 years ago. The logo, was hand drawn by
co-owner Carrol Porter in time for the grand debut of the Silver City landmark business.
The original building, built in 1885 is now more commonly referred to as The Warren House.
As it has been a landmark on the State Historical tour and register for over 15 years. It
has also been the residence of Carrol and Dorothy Porter, since the early 1970s.
The building itself carries a fantastic piece of history along with it. Built by O. S.
Warren and his wife, Elizabeth, it served not only as their home but as the first
insurance office in the yet untamed New Mexico territory. |
